Mark (W) Gordon

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father and grandfather, Mark W. Gordon, after a valiant battle against complications of kidney disease. Son of the late Sam and Sarah Katz Gordon, Mark was a devoted husband to Barbara, a loving father to Andy (Susan) Gordon of Bolton and Tracy Gordon Fox of Colchester; adoring grandfather to Dan, Sarah, Kevin, Becca, Casey and David and Dan’s girlfriend Jess; and furry friend, Cutie. In addition to his parents, Mark was predeceased by his brother, Harold. Mark was born on July 29th, 1934 at St Francis Hospital and passed away there March 10th, 2018. He grew up and attended school in New Britain and attended Central Connecticut State University. Mark was a proud member of the United States Marine Corps and served in Japan during the Korean War. He was also the force behind the Korean war monument at the state Capitol. Mark was co-owner of the Bostonian Fishery in Hartford and Bloomfield, and upon his retirement he was an entertainer, sharing the history and magic of Big Band music at nursing homes and senior centers. He also taught a Big Band class for Life Learn at Hall High school. Mark loved shore fishing for salt water creatures for his aquaria- and due to his expertise, was instrumental in the creation of the New England Aquarium. His family would like to thank all of the doctors, nurses and CNAs at St. Francis Hospital for providing loving care to him for so many months. “Semper Fi!” - Mark.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 14th 2018 at 1:30 p.m. at the Weinstein Mortuary on Farmington Ave in Hartford. Shiva will take place immediately following interment at Mark’s home and on Thursday evening beginning at 7 o’clock at Mark’s home.
