Marcia Lynn (Brown) Rubinstien

Marcia Brown Rubinstien, 67, of Bloomfield, Connecticut formerly of West Hartford, Connecticut, passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2014. Survived by devoted husband of 41 years, Eytan, and loving children Micah (Nell), Jonathan (Katie), Shira (Marc), and Amiel, and adoring grandchildren Max, Elijah, and Joshua; and sister Paula; numerous loving cousins and extended family. Preceded in death by her dearly missed parents Max and Esther Brown. Marcia was born in Waterbury, Connecticut where she graduated from Crosby High School in 1965. A lifelong learner and educator, she was a proud alumna of Brandeis University for undergraduate studies and St. Joseph College for her Masters, followed by Harvard University for her doctoral studies in education. Dynamic, energetic, lovingly funny, smart as a whip, as equally clever as compassionate, and fearlessly original, Marcia never sat down for a minute, living life to the fullest. Marcia was the original grammar police, patrolling improper usage (gasp) each night at the dinner table. A voracious reader with an unmatched vocabulary, she loved crossword puzzles and scrabble, having finally found her intellectual match for both with her partner in life and love. Marcia profoundly loved her career, which always focused on education. She began her esteemed private practice, Edufax, over 30 years ago wherein she provided assessment and consultation to clients, educational institutions and programs throughout the country and internationally, focusing in the area of learning disabilities. She was a published author, prolific speaker, and true visionary in the field, identifying and fostering best practices for children with spectrum disorders. She was repeatedly recognized for her expertise and passionate commitment to fostering the best education for non-traditional learners. Professionally in the home, Marcia was a masterful Jewish cook and baker. Her ruggelach melted in your mouth and there was no schmaltz about it, her matzah ball soup was legendary among family and friends. Her love of Israel was deep and profound, having lived there for 12 years before returning to the United States, visiting every possible opportunity through the years. Marcia will be dearly missed by family, friends, colleagues, her community and her clients, but her upbeat spirit and zest for life are cherished memories. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford, CT at 12:30 p.m. Donations may be made to the Woodhall School endowment fund in Marcia’s name where a scholarship fund is being set up due to her service and commitment to the school for many years, 58 Harrison Lane, PO Box 550, Bethlehem, CT 06751, or to Hillel at Brandeis University. The family will welcome guests for Shiva at 6:30 p.m. at 38 High Hill Road, Bloomfield, CT 06002 on Tuesday, November 25, 2014.
