Manuel (Morton) Salvin

SALVIN, Manuel Morton Salvin, 80 years of age, died peacefully on Sunday, December 19, 2010 in his Bloomfield home, where he was able to reside because of the care and dedication of his wife, Iris (Berkowitz) Salvin, and his care-givers, including Lorna, Loreen and Dimple. In addition to his wife, he leaves two sons, David Salvin (wife, Gail Flesher, daughter Carey) of Greenwich, CT, and Robert Salvin (wife, Spring, and children Isabel, Claire and Theodore) of Wellesley, MA. He also leaves his sister, Phyllis G. Tierney and brother-in-law, James Tierney, as well as a nephew, Steven Seligman (and wife, KK Meyer). Born in Hartford he was the son of the late Herman and Annette (Richman) Salvin. Manny grew up in Hartford and graduated from Weaver High School and the University of Connecticut. He served in the U.S. Army stationed in Berlin, Germany during the Korean War. Manny played many roles: husband, father, grandfather, and outstanding blackjack player. He was very proud of owning and managing Salvin’s Shoes in Hartford, founded by his parents and one of Hartford’s oldest continuously-operating retail establishments. He was always an integral part of the North Hartford Community, which he faithfully and honestly served. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at 1:30 PM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi David J. Small officiating. Interment will follow in the Hartford Mutual Society Cemetery, Wolcott Rd., East Granby. A memorial period will be observed at his home on Tuesday following the interment through Thursday evening. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 659 Tower Ave., 1st Floor, Hartford, CT 06112 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
