Manfred Adler

On April 28, 2014, Manfred Adler, Lt. Col (Ret.) died at the Bloomfield home that he designed more than 50 years earlier. He was born in Kelsterbach, Germany on February 17, 1928 to Daniel and Klara (Oppenheimer) Adler, who immigrated to Hartford in 1937. Manfred was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, and his greatest joy was to be with his family and close friends. He is survived by his beloved wife (of nearly 58 years) Marian (Sadick) Adler and his loving children Lynn Adler and partner Linda Pulvermacher of Melville, NY, Lawrence Adler and his wife Lori of South Windsor, and Elizabeth Adler and her husband Joseph Rigoli of Newton, MA. Manfred (“Opa”) is also survived by his grandchildren Steven, Jeffrey and Marc Adler, and Kayla and Jessica Rigoli. Further, he is survived by endeared nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as many longtime dear friends. Manfred graduated from Hartford’s Weaver High School, and subsequently obtained an engineering degree from Hillyer College (now University of Hartford), from which he has received alumni honors. He also earned a Masters Degree from Commander General Staff College. A retired Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army (Military Intelligence and Civil Affairs Divisions), Manfred served on active duty, and then continued in the Army Reserves for more than 30 years. For 34 years, he worked as an Engineer at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, retiring from its Manufacturing R&D Division. Manfred was a longtime member, past President and former Board Member of Congregation Tikvoh Chadoshoh (now Congregation B’Nai Tikvoh-Shalom) in Bloomfield, of which his parents were founding members. An active member of The Jewish War Veterans, Manfred served as Commander from 1994-1996. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on May 2, 2014 at Congregation B’Nai Tikvoh Shalom, 180 Still Road, Bloomfield, with interment to follow at B’Nai Tikvoh Shalom Cemetery, Club House Road, Windsor. Shiva will be observed on Sunday.
