Lynne Schenkel, 74, of West Hartford, Connecticut, died peacefully on August 8, 2026.
Lynne was born in Hartford, Connecticut, on August 22, 1951, to Mildred and Reuben Seidman. A lifelong resident of West Hartford, Lynne devoted her life to her family, her community, her profession, and the activities and interests that brought her joy. Lynne was a graduate of Conard High School of West Hartford, CT and the University of Connecticut. She also earned her master’s degree from Southern Connecticut State University. She built a rewarding career as a speech pathologist, working in school systems in Connecticut, New Jersey, and Massachusetts, with much of her career spent serving the students of the Bloomfield, Connecticut public schools.
Music was an important part of Lynne’s life. She played piano throughout her life and also played viola as a young adult. She was an accomplished and enthusiastic tennis player and fan. Lynne also loved spending time at the Jewish Community Center and the JCC Swim and Tennis Club, where she enjoyed being active and connecting with others.
A lifelong member of Beth El Synagogue, Lynne cherished her Jewish heritage and especially loved celebrating the Jewish holidays. She often hosted the Jewish holidays at her home, and will always be remembered for the delicious meals, singing, and warmth in her home. Her faith and connection to her community were an important part of her life.
Family was the focal point of Lynne’s life. She treasured time with her children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, and nephews. She loved attending her grandchildren’s concerts, sporting events, along with reading and playing with them. She especially enjoyed her many trips to Florida to visit family. She loved the beach and enjoyed her time with family spent walking on the beaches of Florida, Connecticut, and of course her favorites – Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard. She and her family made many memories at the beach which will be cherished.
Lynne is survived by her children, Edward Schenkel and his wife, Yasmim, and Robert Schenkel and his wife, Stephanie; her grandchildren, Daniel, Elana, and Liana; her brother, David Seidman and his wife, Lori; her sister, Dorine Seidman and her husband, Harvey Starin; her niece, Jessica Seidman; and her nephew, Jason Seidman.
She leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Graveside Services will be held Tues Aug. 11, 2026 10:30am at Beth El Cemetery 51 Jackson St. Avon, CT. 06001
