Louis (J.) Illions

Louis J. Illions, 90, of Bloomfield, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on Wednesday (August 22, 2007) at his daughter¼s home in West Hartford. Louis was born in Brooklyn, NY, the fourth child and eldest son of Charles and Emma Illions. Louis was a veteran of WWII, where he served in the United States Army in North Africa and Italy under General Patton. While stationed abroad, he began to correspond with a young woman from Pennsylvania, Pauline Block. Entirely through their letters, the two fell in love. They were married upon his return to the States and spent the next 60 years together, until Pauline passed away in April of 2006. Louis graduated from City College of NY with a degree in accounting and worked as a CPA until his retirement at age 75. He and Pauline lived as newlyweds in Brooklyn, NY, and later settled in New Hyde Park on Long Island, where they raised their two daughters. After he retired, they split their time between Delray Beach, FL, and Bloomfield. Louis is survived by his brother, Simon Illions, his sister, Shirley Lurie, his devoted daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and David Brown of West Hartford, Diane and Harvey Morrow of New Hyde Park, NY, his grandchildren and their spouses, Lisa Brown and Daniel Handler, Seth and Betsy Brown, Eric and Maria Brown, Jennifer Morrow and Joshua Morrow, his great-grandchildren Otto Handler, Ella, Isabel, Ilana and Tessa Brown, and his loyal and generous companion and aide, Althea Campbell. Louis will be sincerely missed by all who knew him. Funeral services will be held TODAY, Friday, August 25, 2007, at 2 pm at the Mount Ararat cemetery in Farmingdale, NY. A full Shiva will be observed at the home of Diane Morrow in New York. Shiva will be at the home of Barbara and David Brown in West Hartford on Tuesday and Wednesday.
