Loris (Hope) Wasserman

Loris Hope Calegman Wasserman passed away quietly at Copper Ridge Nursing Home in Sykesville, Md., on March 1, 2006. She was 90 years old and had been a lifelong resident of Connecticut. Born in New Haven in 1915 and a graduate of Hillhouse High, she married Alexander and together they lived happily in Hartford and West Hartford for over 57 years until Alexander’s death in 1997. Their energies were spent raising their surviving sons, Martin and Michael, and their grandchildren Brad, Jill, Rebecca, and Torrey. Blessed with three loving sisters, Loris is survived only by the youngest, Estelle. Described as “feisty” and “strong-willed,” Loris will be remembered by her loving friends and family as a woman who sacrificed for her children and promoted excellence in education for them and her grandchildren. She was a lifelong member of the Emanuel Synagogue, West Hartford, and active in Hadassah and ORT. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 5th, at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave, Hartford with Rabbi David J. Small officiating. Interment will follow in the Emanuel Synagogue Cemetery, Wethersfield. Memorial contributions may be made to the Emanuel Synagogue,160 Mohegan Drive, West Hartford, CT, 06117.
