STEIN, Lois (Kone) Stein, of West Hartford passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2009 at the Hebrew Home & Hospital. She was the loving wife for fifty-three years of William P. Stein of West Hartford, and devoted mother of Stephen A. Stein of Redondo Beach, CA. Born in Hartford, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Pauline (Glazier) Kone. Her brother Russell predeceased her, as well as her daughter Erica Beth Stein. A lifelong resident of the area, she was a graduate of Weaver High School and Hilliard College of the University of Hartford. Lois had a distinguished career in the insurance, medical and legal fields. This included working at the law firm of Cole & Cole, Mount Sinai Hospital and she was the Corporate Secretary of West Hartford Furriers, Inc. She was a retiree of the Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Company Legal and Agricultural Loan Departments and she was also employed at Aetna Life & Casualty Insurance, St. Francis Hospital and Hebrew Health Care in her later years. She was a member of many charities and will be remembered for her many beautifully designed dinners and catered affairs for the United Synagogues of Greater Hartford and the Robinson School of West Hartford. She served for many years on the Cemetery Committee with her husband at the Beth David Synagogue of West Hartford. She was a very accomplished pianist and was associated with the Hartt School of Music in her early years. She enjoyed all things living especially her birds, local wildlife and dogs. She was a great cook and accomplished embroiderer, knitter and flower gardener. Lois was a devotee of the Broadway musical theater and would go anywhere to see new Broadway shows as well as in New York City. She loved to often visit the Monterey Peninsula and the Pebble Beach area of California and her favorite city of San Francisco. Private funeral services were held Friday, March 6, 2009 with interment in Beth David Synagogue Cemetery, Wethersfield.
