Lillian Kimenker, 96, of West Hartford, died Friday, (May 20, 2011) at home. Born and raised in Hartford, the daughter of Isaac and Osne Goldberg, she resided in West Hartford since 1954. Her loving husband of 63 years, Robert M. Kimenker, predeceased her last year. She attended Central Connecticut State College full-time while her children were young, graduating in 1964, and then taught 3rd grade in Plainville, CT for fifteen years. Upon retirement, Lil was an eager student at Greater Hartford Community College, an enthusiastic member of book and study groups, a volunteer at the UConn Health Center gift shop and the Hebrew Home, and an avid bridge player. She never stopped hoping all her children would learn the game. Lil loved to stay physically active; she cross-country skied at the West Hartford Reservoir and was a regular at water aerobics at the Jewish Community Center. She was an inveterate traveler and an indomitable camper, traveling with Bob throughout North America in their beloved van. She was a long-time and active member of Congregation Beth Israel. Lil leaves a legacy of devotion to friends, family and community. She is survived by her three children, James Kimenker and his wife Jennifer, Emily Beaton and her husband Graeme, and Nina Kimenker and her husband Joshua Paul; eight grandchildren: Alison Kimenker, Kathryn Hasenfuss, Kimberly Hasenfuss, Benjamin Beaton, Jack Beaton, Ezra Beaton, Rachel Paul and Jacob Paul; two great-grandchildren: Rand Beaton and Leila Beaton; her nephew Richard Goldberg and his wife Bobbie, and her niece Barbara Kinloch and her husband William.
