Born on 9/24/22 in Hartford, CT, Leo was a lifelong resident of the Greater Hartford area. In the ’60’s and ’70’s he was well-known as the owner of SAM’S ARMY AND NAVY,’ an army surplus store he inherited from his father, Samuel Bachner, and turned into a hip clothing store. He finally quit working at the age of 85 to care for his ailing wife, Sarah, (nee Furman). They were married 65 years, having met at a dance in 1951 while Sarah was visiting a cousin living in Hartford. When Sarah finally required nursing home care, Leo drove faithfully to the Hebrew Home every day to feed and provide her constant company. Leo was a WWII veteran and UConn graduate. Leo was predeceased by his parents, Sam and Anna, and his sister, Sylvia. He is survived by his 3 children and their spouses: Stephen and Pam Bachner, Wayne Bachner and Judith Jones, and Robin and Steven Tobias, as well as a brother, Marvin, sisters-in-law Ruth and Nettie Furman, 6 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, several nieces and nephews, and dozens of friends. Funeral services will be held at Weinstein Mortuary on 640 Farmington Ave., Tuesday, 8/14/18, at 1:00.
