Etelis Leatrice, (Hoffman), of West Hartford, widow of Jack Norman Etelis passed away after a courageous battle with a long illness. Leatrice grew up in Hartford the daughter of the late Raymond and Sadie (Prant) Hoffman. She graduated Weaver High School and Southern Connecticut State Teachers’ College and taught Public School in Hartford. She and her beloved husband Jack traveled extensively in the United States and abroad and were passionate bridge players. After retiring, they enjoyed spending their winters in Delray Beach, Florida where their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren loved to visit. After Jack passed, Leatrice remained an avid bridge player and enjoyed mah jong with “the girls”. She was an officer of the Teferes Israel Synagogue, a life member and volunteer of Hadassah, a member of Jewish Woman International and a long-standing member of the Emanuel Synagogue. She was proud of her Jewish heritage. Together with her husband she donated to many charities. Leatrice was a wonderful and caring mother and grandmother. She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory, her daughters and their husbands Judith Etelis and Michael Farber; Robyn and Harry Weller; her grandchildren Stacy Farber and her husband Keith Revoet, Joshua and his wife Kimberly Farber, Elayna Weller; Sarah Weller and her husband Yossi Silverman and three great-grandsons. She also leaves her sister Harriet Carpenos and her nieces, nephew, cousins and friends. Leatrice was predeceased by her daughter Francine Etelis Silver. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Shirley Wright who was Leatrice’s caregiver and became not only her cherished friend but a dear friend to the entire family. The funeral service will be 12:30PM Sunday, November 2nd, in the chapel of Weinstein Mortuary. Rabbi David J. Small will officiate. She will be interred immediately thereafter at the Emanuel Cemetery in Wethersfield. The family will be observing Shiva at Leatrice’s home at 107 Brewster Road, West Hartford Connecticut Sunday through Thursday from 1-4PM and 7-9PM; and Friday 11-12PM. Maariv Services will be at 7:00PM. Donations may be made to the Jack and Leatrice Etelis Endowment Fund at the Emanuel Synagogue, 160 Mohegan Drive, West Hartford 06117, to Hadassah or a charity of the donor’s choice.
