Laurie (Ellen) Jaffe

Laurie Ellen Jaffe, age 72, of Scotia, NY, died on Friday August 20, 2010 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady. Her husband Sam and her daughters Susan and Amy were at her side. She was born in Bronx, NY. After taking herself by train to Albany Teachers college, she met Sam, the love of her life and moved to the Schenectady area. She graduated from Albany State Teachers College, cum laude with a Bachelors of Science and a major in business education. She went to graduate school at State University of New York at Albany after the birth of her children and earned a Masters of Education. Laurie was a business education teacher at Linton High School, Mt. Pleasant High School and Schenectady County Community College. She loved her students and saw the potential in each and every one of them. She enjoyed travel, dinners with her friends and being with the 7 grandchildren she adored: Daniel, Jonathan (who predeceased his grandmother), Matthew, Alyssa, Stephanie, Michael and Meghan. She is survived by her beloved husband Samuel Ellis Jaffe; her daughter Susan, son-in-law Kevin and grandchildren Matthew, Stephanie and Meghan Taylor; her daughter Amy, son-in-law Peter and grandchildren Daniel, Alyssa and Michael Barzach Funeral services and interment were held in Schenectady, NY on Sunday August 22nd. The period of mourning will be observed at the Barzach residence, 26 Forest Hills Lane in West Hartford, Ct. on Thursday August 26th.
