Joy Esther Palten, 100, of West Hartford passed away peacefully at her home on August 12, 2021. Joy was the beloved wife of the late Atty. Paul M. Palten and is survived by her daughter Katherine Yacavone and her husband, John, of Cheshire and her son, David Palten, and his wife Barbara, of West Hartford, five grandchildren; Daniel (Kathrin), Peter (Olivia), James (Susan), Elizabeth (Joe), and Emily (Karl) and six great-grandchildren (Ada, Nicholas, Lucinda, Anthony, Edwin, and Marco). Joy was known for her extraordinary care of son Richard who pre-deceased her in 1983. Born in New Haven on August 20, 1920, Joy lived most of her adult life in West Hartford, where she was active in community and political affairs and a long-time member of Congregation Beth Israel. She served for several years as Vice Chairperson of the West Hartford Democratic Party and was active in the Jewish Federation. Joy loved cooking, baking, gardening, reading and the New York Times including its crossword puzzles. Above all, she was devoted to each and every family member who returned her love in equal measure. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. The family wishes to thank her numerous caregivers of recent years for their devoted service. A graveside service will be held at the Emanuel Cemetery, 1361 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield at 11AM August 13th, 2021. Memorial donations may be made to the Congregation Beth Israel, West Hartford.
