Joseph Roznar

Joseph Roznar, 97, of West Hartford, died Sunday, November 2, 2014, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was the beloved husband for 65 years of Lillian (Mishkin) Roznar. Born in New Haven, he was the son of the late Jacob and Tillie (Liebowitz) Roznar. Joe grew up in Hartford, and graduated from Weaver High school in 1935. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in both the South Pacific and Europe. After the war, he worked at the Royal Typewriter factory, then worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier for 30 years. He was a former member of the Regents and the Jewish War Veterans. Prior to his illness, he enjoyed reading, bowling and watching sports, especially his favorite team, the New York Yankees. He leaves his wife Lillian, his daughters Joan and her husband Larry Stahl of West Hartford, and Debra Roznar of Newington, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Alexander and his sisters Sylvia Haber and Rebecca Cohen. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to his caregiver George Opare, who took wonderful care of Joe for the four years prior to his death. A graveside funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at 11:00am at the Aaron Association Cemetery, 999 Garden Street, Hartford, CT 06112 with Rabbi Jeffrey Bennett officiating. Following the service, the family will receive relatives and friends at the home of Joan and Larry Stahl at 11 Hammick Rd., West Hartford.
