Joel (Grauman) Levy

Joel Grauman Levy, 70, of Boca Raton, FL, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2017. Joel was born on June 30, 1947 to Edna and David Levy of West Hartford, CT. Joel graduated from the Kingswood-Oxford School. He graduated Cum Laude from Brandeis University, after which he served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves and obtained a honorable discharge. Joel graduated Cum Laude from the University of Connecticut School of Law where he was awarded the Contracts book prize. Joel worked as an attorney for the Securities and Exchange Commission in Philadelphia and then as an assistant counsel with United Technologies Corp. in its Hartford office. Joel then practiced personal injury law for over 30 years with private firms, most recently for several years with Trantolo & Trantolo of Hartford. Joel loved the scholarly aspects of the legal profession, and many younger attorneys at the firms where he practiced enjoyed and benefitted from Joel’s expert mentoring, friendliness, and infectious wit. Joel was also a volunteer with Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and maintained a close relationship with his “Little Brother” for several years and into adulthood. Joel leaves his loving wife of 35 years, Joan Mackler Levy, of Boca Raton, FL, his devoted sister-in-law, Lisa Levy and brother-in-law, Jim Schulwolf, of West Hartford, CT, two nephews, Erik Schulwolf and Daniel Schulwolf, both of Boston, MA, and a niece, Sara Schulwolf, of Providence, R.I., all of whom loved him and will miss him greatly. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Trust Bridge Hospice of Palm Beach County or a charity of the donor’s choice. A funeral will be held at Weinstein Mortuary Chapel, Hartford, CT at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2018. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford, CT.
