Joe (R.) Gordon

Joe R. Gordon, 84 years of age, of Dalewood Rd., Newington, died Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at his home. Born in Hartford, he was the son of the late William and Sophie (Singer) Gordon. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Joe received his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Education from the University of Connecticut. During his exemplary career in education, he was a teacher, a counselor, and retired as an Associate Commissioner of Education for the State of Connecticut. Most recently, he was a Surrogate Parent for the State Department of Education. He was a past president of Temple Sinai in Newington, the CT Guidance Association and the Hartford Federation of Teachers. He was the beloved husband for 60 years of Beatrice (Miller) Gordon; devoted father of LeAnn Beaulieu and her husband H. Neil Beaulieu of Enfield, and David A. Gordon and his wife Danuta M. Gordon of Glastonbury. He was the cherished grandfather of Michele and Tom Vaughan, Allison and Stephen Ouellette, Neil and Cliona Beaulieu, Seth and Amy Beaulieu, Aaron and Lauren Gordon, Scott Beaulieu and his fiancé Manda Berard, and Dana and Jennifer Gordon. He was also the loving great-grandfather of Max, Danielle, Connor, Benjamin, Ciara, Cian and Caleb. He leaves his sister Beatrice Kirshnitz and her husband Paul of Sunny Isle, FL. and his brother, Sidney L. Gordon and his wife Marilyn of Bloomfield. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 14, 2008 at 3:00 PM in the Sanctuary of Temple Sinai, 41 West Hartford Rd., Newington. Interment will follow in Temple Sinai Memorial Park, on the Temple grounds. A memorial period will be observed at his home Thursday following the funeral, Friday until 6 PM, Saturday 7-9 PM, and Sunday 1-4 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Temple Sinai, 41 West Hartford Rd., Newington 06111 or to The Helen & Harry Gray Cancer Center, 85 Retreat Ave., Hartford 06106.
