Jeffrey Baver

September 18, 1947 — August 6, 2025

Jeffrey Baver died peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 in West Hartford surrounded by his family. He was a former Deputy City Manager of Hartford, president of the Hartford Municipal Employees Association, Chairman of the South Windsor Youth Advisory Board, and served on various boards and commissions, where he ensured that the city he loved, its residents, and its employees, were treated fairly and equally. He received awards and accolades from the Mayor’s office, Hartford Areas Rally Together, First Night Hartford, Frog Hollow, and others. His dedication to Hartford, and putting its people first, cultivated many life-long friendships.

Jeff’s excitement for new adventures was contagious. He loved learning about different cultures and people; his unique ability to listen compassionately coupled with his unfiltered communication style gave him an approachable authenticity that helped form deep connections. He was a champion golfer, fisherman, musician, gardener, and cook. Whether it be a new recipe for red snapper in banana leaves, a pig roast in the yard, a hole in one at Goodwin’s 15th, a new guitar (or 4), helping turn a small part of Buckingham St. into an oasis, or a catching a striper bigger than his 7-year-old son, those around him could not help but share in his enthusiasm and joy.

Jeff was predeceased by parents Rita (Kleinberg) and Nathan Baver and his brother Alan Baver. He will be dearly missed by his wife Maureen Moriarty; daughters Steph Kexel and Moriah Moriarty; and son Jeremy Baver and wife Katie Hanley and their children Bridget, Alex and Charlie.

Jeff and his family want to thank Dr. Alina Dobrita and Dr. Jeffrey Kamradt, whose care kept The Phoenix rising in his cancer battle for the past 15+ years, time that will be cherished. The family will receive friends at their West Hartford home on Tuesday, August 12th from 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Jewish Family Services or the American Cancer Society in his memory.
