Jeanette (Nashner) Valfer, 91 years of age, widow of Siegfried Valfer, died Thursday, October 27, 2011. Born in Hartford, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Gertrude (Mayer) Nashner. She was a graduate of Weaver High School, Hartford, class of 1938. Jeanette was a member of Congregation B’nai Tikvoh-Sholom of Bloomfield and past president and member of its Sisterhood. She was also a member of the Jewish War Veterans, the 55-0 Club, ORT and Hadassah. Jeanette spent 20 wonderful years with her husband Siggy, family and friends, at their beach house, the “Val de Mer” in Old Lyme. She loved playing bingo with her good friends at Federation Square. Jeanette always had a joke to tell to put a smile on people’s faces. She leaves her children: Elayne Ringler of West Hartford, David Valfer of West Hartford, who she regarded as her “ROCK”; Gerri Valfer of East Hartford, and Gilbert Valfer and his wife Laura of Newington; five grandchildren: Heidi, Jeffrey, Jennifer, Karen and Daniel; and two great grandsons, Stephen and Eddie. She also leaves her life long friend Beulah Katz. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 30, 2011 at 12:00 PM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford, with Rabbi Debra Cantor officiating. Interment will follow in the Congregation Tikvoh Chadoshoh Cemetery, Windsor. A memorial period will be observed at the home of her daughter, Elayne, 1095 Farmington Ave., West Hartford on Sunday, following the funeral. A memorial period will also be held at the home of her son, Gilbert Valfer, 100 School House Road, Newington, CT 06111 following interment.
