Jean (Kopnick) Schonfeld

Jean (Kopnick) Schonfeld, age 96, died peacefully September 3, 2014. She was the beloved wife of the late Frank Schonfeld. Born February 4, 1918 in Bridgewater, MA, and raised in Lynn, MA, Jean moved with her family to Bronx, NY in 1935, where she remained until 2009. Jean and Frank were active members of the Amalgamated Housing cooperative community and the Lehman College folk dance group as well as the Workmen’s Circle Chorus. Jean spent many years helping Frank in his efforts to fight corruption in the New York City Painters’ Union. She was known by neighbors as a warm presence ready to lend a helping hand, and had a smile and kind words for everyone she knew. The gentleness and happiness she bestowed on others was returned to her ten-fold when she needed it. After moving to West Hartford, CT in 2009, Jean discovered a love for word puzzles and became well known for her prowess at Hamilton Heights. She is lovingly remembered by her children, David Schonfeld and his wife Leora Berns of West Hartford; Sari Rosokoff and her husband Jim Rosokoff of Glastonbury; and by her grandchildren, Sylvie and Jacqueline Rosokoff of New York City, and Benjamin Zarit of Chicago. The family thanks the caring staff of McLean Hospice, Atria Hamilton Heights, and Saint Mary Home for their kindness and support. Memorial donations may be made to the Alumni Scholarship Fund of the Amalgamated Nursery School: NASF, 3980 Orloff Avenue, Bronx, NY 10463
