Jason (Matthew) Schulman

d. January 1, 1970

Jason Matthew Schulman, 42, son of Myron and Shelley (Tager) Schulman, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 11, 2018.

Jason is survived by his loving parents, Myron and Shelley; his brother, Michael and his wife, Rebecca and son, Noah, and his brother, Jonathan, and his wife, Jamie, and their three sons, Parker, Tristan and Beckham. His nephews adored him and just couldn’t wait for a visit from their Uncle Jason, who showered them with unique and well-thought out gifts. He is also survived by his Auntie TJ and his Uncle Alan and Auntie Jill, and their families, and his Godson, Andrew. Jason also leaves many special cousins and an extraordinary group of high school, college and work friends.

Jason, better known as “The Bear” to his close friends, graduated from Hall High School and Plymouth State College. He worked on the Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Unit at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, Mount Sinai Campus for almost 20 years, connecting with and encouraging delicate children, never giving up on them. He also built a highly successful Insurance Agency in Hartford, dedicated to making sure his clients got the healthcare they needed.

Jason loved preparing as well as eating great food, traveling and living life to the fullest. He had a special gift in solving problems and always found a way to fix it, no matter how long it took. Jason followed in his father’s passion for fly fishing, was a natural athlete and excelled at Football, Basketball and in every sport he tried. In High School, he started as a wide receiver and made the All-Conference Team. Spending Saturdays at his games was always a highlight for his family – his brothers always looked up to him. He later went on to play football at Plymouth State and was dedicated to the NY Football Giants and NY Yankees. Every year he and his closest friends participated in their own created sports extravaganza, the Norfeldt Invitational Tournament (NIT). They competed in an all-day sporting event consisting of golf, basketball and whiffle ball. They drank beer and reminisced, some of them going all the way back to elementary school.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that memorial donations be made in Jason’s name to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation Support, JDRF, 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10004.

A funeral service for Jason will be held on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at 10:30 am at Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford, with Rabbi Mendy Samuels officiating, followed by burial at the Beth Hillel Synagogue Cemetery, Wolcott Road, East Granby. Following Sunday’s service, the family will receive relatives and friends at the West Hartford Senior Center, 15 Starkel Road. Shiva will continue from Sunday evening through Wednesday evening, October 17, at the home of Myron and Shelley. Calling hours: 1:00 – 4:00 pm and 6:30 – 9:00 pm, with a prayer service (Minyan) each evening at 7:00 pm.
