Janet (Rudich) Pitegoff of West Hartford died Sunday, April 13, 2008 at home. She was the widow of the late Dr. Gerald I. Pitegoff. Born in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Harry I. and Amelia Rudich, and attended local public school prior to attending and graduating N.Y.U. She went on to earn an M.A. in vocational guidance at Columbia University. While pursuing this degree, she worked for the U.S. Department of Labor. She was also a champion of fair employment practices in New York. After moving to Hartford, she became very active in charitable organizations, including Hartford Neighborhood Centers of which she later became president. She was a founder of the Jewish Association for Community Living which provides residential services to people with disabilities. She was also an endowment trustee of HARC. She was a member of the Emanuel Synagogue of West Hartford, and of Tumble Brook Country Club, Bloomfield. She leaves her son, Dr. John Pitegoff and his wife Anne Martha Pitegoff of West Hartford; two grandchildren: Curtis and Molly and son, Robert Pitegoff of East Hartford. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at 9:15 AM at the Emanuel Synagogue, 160 Mohegan Drive, West Hartford with Rabbi David J. Small and Cantor Sanford Cohn officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY. A memorial period will be observed at the home of her son John in West Hartford on Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 7-9 PM and Thursday afternoon, 2-4 PM.
