Janet (Busker) Appell

Janet (Busker) Appell, 85, formerly of New Britain, passed away on August 29, 2010 in Mill Valley, CA after a brief illness. Mrs. Appell was born and raised in New Britain, graduating from New Britain High School and the State Teachers College, now Central Connecticut State University. She lived in New Britain for 81 years and was a dedicated educator who taught business subjects in area public schools for 20 years, most recently at Bristol Central High School. Mrs. Appell was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Erwin Appell. She leaves her son, Gary and his wife Ruthanne, of Mill Valley, and her son Michael and partner Guy Ronen of Newton, MA. She also leaves four beloved grandchildren, Ben, Jesse, Shira and Brina and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Appell also leaves her sister, Ethel Kaplowitz and husband Irwin of New Rochelle, New York. She was the daughter of Max and Adela Busker, both of New Britain. Mrs. Appell was an early and life long member of Temple B’nai Israel of New Britain, where she had been a member of the Hebrew School faculty. She served as president of the Temple’s chapter of Junior Hadassah and was an active supporter of the organization for 65 years.The funeral will take place on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at 11:00 am at Beth Alom Cemetery, Allen St., New Britain. Donations in her memory may be made to local Hadassah chapters or Brandeis University, Waltham, MA. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford.
