James (Charles) Filkoff

James Charles Filkoff, 90 years of age, of Lauderhill, FL, formerly of Vernon, died Tuesday, April 17, 2012. Born in Hartford, he was the son of the late Abraham and Bessie (Bloom) Filkoff. He owned and operated the former Herman Motors in Vernon, a Chrysler-Plymouth dealership, until he retired in 1986. Jimmy was a member of the former Congregation B’nai Israel of Rockville and the Vernon Rotary. He was very active in the Democratic party including fund raising for state and US candidates and local town politics. He loved to spend time with his numerous friends, threw fabulous parties, enjoyed a good argument, and lived by his maxim, “You never spoil a good story with the truth.” 1. He was the loving husband of Gloria (Edlin) Filkoff; devoted father of Ronnie Ann Ryan and her husband Paul of Milford, and Roy E. Filkoff and his wife Risa of South Windsor; cherished grandfather of Andrew and Zachary Filkoff; and brother of Joseph Filkoff and his wife Florence of Tamarac, FL. He was predeceased by brothers, Isadore and his wife Jeanette Filkoff, and Gay Filkoff; and sister, Esther Felix. He also leaves his sister-in-law, Evelyn Filkoff; and his brother-in-law, Sidney Felix. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 20, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Congregation B’nai Israel Cemetery, Edith Rd. (off of Skinner Rd), South Windsor with Rabbi Richard Plavin officiating. Shiva will be observed at the home of his son, 56 Cambridge Drive, South Windsor, Friday following the interment, Saturday evening, and Sunday afternoon and evening.
