Israel Steinberg

Israel Steinberg, 91, of West Hartford, devoted husband of Helen (Schrieber) Steinberg, died peacefully at home on Sunday, (December 11, 2005). Born in Hartford, he was the son of the late Lewis and Molly Steinberg. He graduated from Weaver High School, moving to West Hartford in 1948, where he lived with his family and operated his business. Mr. Steinberg founded Viking Fuel Oil Company in 1933 when he was just out of high school. In addition to his wife of 65 years, he leaves his children: daughters Margery Rosenberg (whose husband Morton died three years ago), Susan Bahr and her husband Robert; son Lewis and his wife Margery; grandchildren: Talia Goldfarb and her husband Charles, Danielle Eason and her husband Evan, Jonathan Bahr and Daniel Rosenberg; and great grandchildren: Jake, Kylie and Macy Goldfarb, and Julia Eason. He was predeceased by his brother, Samuel Steinberg, and his sisters: Kate Steinberg Glasser, Miriam Steinberg Nisselbaum , Rose Steinberg Levine, and Eva Steinberg Myerowitz. The family would like to express their appreciation to special caregivers: Marius and Jolanta Bielski, Lescak Bielski and Krystyna Chowaniec, and the VNA. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 14 at 12:15 p.m. in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford with Rabbi Stephen Fuchs officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. The family will observe a period of mourning at his home on Wednesday, December 14 following the funeral, and Thursday, December 15. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, 228 Farmington Ave., Hartford, 06105-3501 or Congregation Beth Israel, 701 Farmington Ave., West Hartford 06119.
