Isadore Karp

Isadore Karp of Hartford died Tuesday (June 24, 2008). Izzy was born and lived most of his life in Stamford until retiring to Florida in 1974. After graduating from Stamford High School, the family business, Karp’s Hardware, where he continued to work until he retired. He bravely served in the U.S. Army in World War II serving on five campaigns in Italy and North Africa. After the war, he returned to Stamford and married Edith Levitan, his loving wife for 54 years. In 2006, Izzy moved to Hartford to be near his son and his family. Izzy, a lifetime Democrat was very interested in politics, loved sports and continued to golf until the age of 93 and was still playing shuffleboard at 95. He enjoyed a sharp mind and a great sense of humor until shortly before his death. Izzy is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Stephen and Maureen Karp of Newington, daughter and son-in-law Phyllis and Robert Michel of Mountain View, CA; grandchildren Marissa and Jeremy Karp of Newington, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Edith, his brothers Harry, Sam, Sid and sisters, Anna and Bessie. A Memorial Service will be held at Avery Heights Chapel, 705 New Britain Ave., Hartford on Wednesday, July 2 at 2 p.m. Donations in Izzy’s honor may be made to Connecticut VNA Hospice and Palliative Care, 33 North Plains Industrial Rd., Wallingford CT 06492. Arrangements entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford.
