Irving (S.) Starr

STARR, Irving S. Starr, Ed.D., 88, of Bloomfield, died Friday, November 16, 2007 in Hartford. Born in Quincy, MA, he was the son of the late Jack and Rose (Kupperman) Sclarenco. He served in the US Army during World War II. He was Dean of the College of Education at the University of Hartford from 1957-1982. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Irene (Godgart) Starr; three sons, Jay M. Starr and his wife Deborah of Merion, PA, Richard M. Starr and his wife Barbara of West Hartford, and Lawrence A. Starr and his wife Sheryl of Newton, MA; seven grandchildren; and his brother David Starr and his wife Ruthe of Canton, MA. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 19, 2007 at 9:30 am in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with interment in Quincy Hebrew Cemetery, Baker St., West Roxbury, MA. Shiva will be observed at the home of his son, Richard M. Starr, 44 Richmond Lane, West Hartford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Irving & Irene Starr Scholarship Fund, c/o The University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Ave., West Hartford 06117.
