Irene (Goodman Sorokin) Bobrow

Irene Sorokin (Bobrow), daughter of the late Cora Mines Goodman and Louis Goodman, sister of the late Elaine Goodman Miller. She graduated cum laude from Smith College, received the William Bertam Imlach prize for painting and drawing for three consecutive years, and was a member of the Alpha Phi Kappa Psi Honorary art society. She did graduate work at the Institute of Fine Art in New York City. She starting working when she was eleven years old and worked continuously until her death. Her first job was adding color to black and while photographs. After teaching painting for a number of years she became a celebrated interior and architectural designer, designing, decorating and landscaping homes and commercial buildings throughout the United States. She also designed furniture, carpets, lighting and mosaics. She wrote poetry and was published by Harbinger House in Songs in the Morning. Throughout her life she was an ardent liberal democrat. She was one of the founders of Project Concern and worked actively against the Vietnam war from the very beginning. She leaves a large beloved family: her children, Peter and Lillian Sorokin of West Hartford, and the artist Wednesday Nelena Sorokin Miller and Russell G. Miller of Becket, MA; her grandchildren, the lights of her life: Mathew C. Sorokin, Mark J. Sorokin and his wife Gina Mascolo Sorokin and Lindsey B. Sorokin; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in law Bennett Miller, Raymond and Janet Sorokin and Ethel Sorokin, and many cousins and nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her beloved son-in-law, Peter Gezork, and by two husbands, Dr. Bernard Sorokin and Dr. Aaron Bobrow. She leaves her best friend and true love, Isadore Y. Case. She also leaves a host of much loved and loving clients and friends. She dedicated her life to all things beautiful. Funeral services will be held TODAY, Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with interment in the Emanuel Synagogue Cemetery, Wethersfield. A memorial period will be observed Tuesday following the funeral through Thursday evening, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, 615 Fern St., West Hartford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor?s choice.
