Ira Yohalem

d. January 1, 1970

Born in Mt. Vernon, NY and late of Manhattan and New Marlborough, MA, Ira, age 77, passed away on May 16, 2018 after a sudden brief illness. He is survived by his wife of almost 30 years, Shirley Friedman, who he believed “hung the moon”, son, Matt, daughter, Beth, daughter-in- law, Honey, son-in-law, Justin, adored grandchildren, Jasmine and Simon, brother, Nathaniel, sisters-in-law, Louise Yohalem and Judy Brown, his four-legged girl, Charley, and a clan of beloved nephews and nieces. Ira was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Mark Brown. Ira was an alumnus of the University of Michigan and Columbia University Business School. He was the Managing Director of Yohalem Gillman & Co. In 2005, he merged the firm with Anchin, Block, & Anchin. Ira was the treasurer of Barrington Stage Co. in Pittsfield, MA, and a former Finance Committee member of the Town of New Marlborough. A man of incisive humor and persuasive speech, Ira left every child in his wake believing that pizza was discovered by Giuseppe Pizza. Be it tennis or Jewish athletes’ trivia, Ira was a fearless competitor. He was a voracious reader and debater of history, a patient dog-walker, and a loyal friend. In Ira’s memory, the family suggests donations to Barrington Stage Co.
