Ida (Golden) Dubins

Ida (Golden) Dubins, 92 years of age, of Bloomfield, died Thursday, March 5, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital & Medical Center. Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Abraham and Lillian Golden. Ida graduated with a B.A. Degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1937 and received a Masters Degree in Science from Columbia University in 1950. Professor Dubins came to the University of Connecticut School of Social Work in 1963 and was promoted to full professor in 1975. Introduction and development of curriculum on Women?s Issues was directly related to Professor Dubins? commitment and conviction about the importance of this subject matter in social work education. Students honored her contributions to their education by asking her to deliver the keynote address at their graduation in May 1983. Ida Dubins set the highest standards for herself and her profession, not with fanfare or self-righteous protestation, but by example of her own behavior. Upon her retirement in 1983, the University of Connecticut expressed the following, ?It is with fondest memories and respect that we preserve and build on Professor Dubins? contributions to the School?. She was the loving wife of Sol Dubins; beloved step-mother of Enid Zangler of Queens, NY, and Arline Welch and her husband Barry of Delray Beach, FL; cherished grandmother of, Shara Berkowitz-Valte and her husband Carlo, Brian Berkowitz and his wife Kristen, and Todd Berkowitz and his wife Aylin; and loving great-grandmother of Ean and Gabriel Valte. Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 8, 2009 at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford, with interment in the Emanuel Synagogue Cemetery, Wethersfield. A memorial period will be observed at her home, 3 East Lane, Apt J, Bloomfield, Sunday following the interment.
