Hyman Levine

Hyman Levine, 92, of Stamford, formerly of Colchester, died Tuesday, May 17th at home. Born in New York, NY, he was the son of the late Harry and Etta Levine. He was a graduate of the University of Connecticut with a degree in Chemistry. After graduating from college, he entered the family coat business, Levine & Levine Coat Company in Colchester and worked there until his retirement in 1974. After retirement, he pursued his passion for art, first painting, and then finding his real love in sculpting. He received several awards for his work. He was a member of the Masons Cosmopolitan Lodge, New Haven; and a member of Congregation Ahavath Achim, Colchester. He leaves his wife Minnie (Jaffe) Levine; a son, Dr. Arnold Levine of Greenwich; a daughter-in-law Susan Levine of Bluffton, SC; four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sons: Laurence and Stuart Levine. Funeral services will be held TODAY, May 19th, at 2:00 PM in the Sanctuary of Congregation Ahavath Achim, 84 Lebanon Avenue, Colchester, with Rabbi Kenneth Alter officiating. A memorial period will be observed at his home, 77 Third Street, Stamford on Thursday, following the funeral. Donations in memory of Mr. Levine may be made to support colorectal cancer research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, P. O. Box 27106, New York, NY 10087.
