Howard (M.) Werner

Howard M. Werner, 85 years of age, of Hartford, died Thursday, May 20, 2010 at home with his family by his side. Born in Mexico City, D.F., he was the son of the late Irving R. and Viviana (Heyman) Werner. He graduated from Weaver High School in Hartford, from Trinity College in Hartford, and the University of Connecticut School of Law. Howard served as a forward observer in the US Army Infantry during World War II with the 87th Chemical Mortar Battalion attached to the 1st Division. He received a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and the decoration of which he was most proud, The Combat Infantry Badge. After practicing law in Hartford for several years, Howard became a real estate developer completing many types of projects including The Villas Tacul in Cancun, Mexico. He was a past president of the Hartford Zionist Organization and a member of Congregation Beth Israel of West Hartford. He was the devoted husband for 60 years of Barbara (Goldman) Werner; beloved father of Roye A. Werner and her husband Reid Andrews of Pittsburgh, PA, Dr. Eric J. Werner and his wife Dr. Alice L. Werner of Norfolk, VA, and Robby Werner and his wife Liz of Darien; and cherished grandfather of Lena, Jesse, Jacob, Abby, Bronwyn, Eve, Andrew, and Dougie. He was predeceased by his brother, Marine Lt. Irving Roy Werner, Jr. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at The St. Francis Hospital Cancer Clinic. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Mary 23, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi Michael Pincus officiating. Interment will follow in Beth Israel Cemetery, Avon. Following the interment the family will receive relatives and friends at 227 Terry Rd., Hartford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Masonicare Partners Home Health & Hospice Program, 111 Founders Plaza, East Hartford 06108, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
