Hillel Allen “Al” Beatman, 82, died Thursday (April 22, 2010) at Saint Mary Home in West Hartford. He was born on November 9, 1927 in New Britain, the youngest son of Raymond David and Rachel (Bessoff) Beatman. He worked at Fafnir Bearing Co. in New Britain from the 1940’s through the 1970’s. Al was an active participant in the Hartford Regional Center. His constant companion for over 30 years was Shirley Paddock until her death on August 31, 2004. Al is survived by his nephew, Dr. Jay Beatman and his wife Kim of West Hartford, and their daughter, Jillian Beatman, who called him “Uncle Poopsie;” his niece, Lisa Beatman and her partner Rick Yoder of Roslindale, MA; his nephew Howard Beatman of New London; his nephew David Beatman and his wife Carol of Middletown and their sons Andrew and Thomas Beatman; and his nephew Samuel Beatman of Florida. Al was predeceased by his brothers and their wives, Dr. Bernard and Norma Belle Beatman of New London, and Edward and Frances Beatman of Beverly Hills, CA. The family would like to express its appreciation to Al’s caregivers at Saint Mary Home, especially Elliott Kelbick and Dr. Frederick Rowland, as well as the staff of West-Two, for providing him with such good care in his later years. A graveside service will be held at Beth Alom Cemetery, 46 Allen Street in New Britain on Friday (April 30, 2010) at 11 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. in the Chapel at Saint Mary Home, 2021 Albany Avenue, West Hartford.
