Herman (A.) Shemonsky

Herman Shemonsky, 89, formerly of Simsbury, Ct. and Old Saybrook, Ct. passed away November 17, 2017. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was the youngest of four siblings. He graduated Weaver High School and attended the New School in New York City. He joined the military during the Korean crisis as an MP for the army. He worked for the Hills department store chain while pursuing his passion for acting and directing. He was involved with many theaters including the New Britain Repertory Theatre, Mark Twain Masquers, Producing Guild and Hartford Stage Company. He was an active and founding member of the Farmington Valley Jewish Congregation, past president and cantor for the synagogue for over 25 years. He leaves behind his son and son-in-law, Peter Shemonsky and Clement Mok of San Francisco, Ca. Nephews Barry Vine of Woodbridge Ct., Bobby Shea of Windsor Locks, Ct. Nieces, Sue Cervasio and Grace Zeloznot of Pennsylvania along with cousins, longtime friend Deborah Caswell of Berlin, Ct. and other longtime friends and was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Muriel P. Shemonsky. A graveside service and burial will take place on Tuesday, November 21st, 2017 at 11:00 am, at the Farmington Valley Jewish Congregation Cemetery, 46 Mountain View Road, Avon Ct. A luncheon will follow the service. Donations in memory of Herman Shemonsky can be made to the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd. Newington, Ct. 06111. (www.cthumane.org)
