Herbert “Herbie” Daniel Nair, 86 years of age, of Newington, died Wednesday, January 2, 2013. Born in New Britain, he was the son of the late Louis and Evelyn (Feigenbaum) Nair. He attended New Britain High School. and was a US Army Veteran serving as part of the occupational forces in Japan during World War II. He was the president of Feigenbaum and Nair, a scrap metal processing business in New Britain, for over 60 years. He was a member of and active at the Congregation Tephereth Israel Synagogue in New Britain. He was co-president of the Mr. & Mrs. Club of the synagogue, as well as a former treasurer. He leaves his loving wife of 61 years, Beverly (Weisman) Nair; his daughter, Judy Sue Dombrow and her husband Jerry of Newington; his grandchildren: Lesley Dyan Dombrow, Michelle Dombrow Syc and her husband Gary, and James Louis Dombrow; and a great granddaughter Jade Alexis Syc, all of Newington. He also leaves his brothers Monroe Nair and his wife Roberta of Clinton, and Howard Nair, his best friend and partner, and his wife Barbara of West Hartford. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Michael Robert Nair. He was the best Daddy in the world and will always be Judy’s Valentine. Zaidie was a loving grandfather to his grandchildren. Herbie had a great sense of humor, a larger-than-life personality, and a big heart. Funeral services will be held TODAY, Thursday, January 3, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the Congregation Tephereth Israel Synagogue, 76 Winter Street, New Britain with Rabbi Barukh Schectman officiating.
