It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend Herbert Elliott Golinsky. He died peacefully at home at the age of 95 on December 6, 2017. Herb was born the youngest of eight children in Brooklyn, NY on January 19, 1922, son of Rebecca (Watman) and Max Golinsky. He grew up in Colchester and Hartford where he graduated from Weaver High School. Herb married Doris Baron his adoring wife of 70 years living in West Hartford and Avon then moving to Hoffman SummerWood Community where he lived the last 6 years. Herb and Doris spent many wonderful summers at Crescent Beach in Niantic and winters in Florida. He was a founding member of Beth El Temple, Cliffside Country Club, a member of The Regents and a generous benefactor to many charities including The Hebrew Home, Hadassah, Jewish Federation and Chabad House. The center of his world was his loving family. He enjoyed countless hours talking, walking, visiting and going to fun places together. Herb had great passion for his business, a real estate development company. He served as President of the Real Estate Division of General Cigar. He was delighted when his son Jed and his son-in-law Eric joined him. Getting up very early going to work, he often mentored other business associates with his innate wisdom which gave him great joy. All benefitted from spending time with Herb. Herb is survived by his devoted daughter Iris Spungin and her husband Eric, his cherished grandchildren Lindsay Donovan, her husband William, Gregory Spungin, Emily Golinsky and her wife Michelle Cyr, his treasured great grandchildren, Jack and Elle, brother-in-law Irwin Baron and his wife Faye and daughter-in-law Gail Golinsky. He was predeceased by his adoring wife Doris, son Jed, sister-in-law Joyce Baron and sisters Irene Weinbaum and Anne Berman whom he was particularly close with. Herb will also be remembered by many special nieces, nephews, and close friends Faye and Irv Krantz. The family is grateful for and appreciative of dedicated, compassionate, caregivers at Home Instead, Stay At Home Care and SummerWood who contributed greatly to making Herb’s last years so comfortable. We particularly want to thank Dr. Ralph Rosenberg and staff for their dedicated care.
