Henry Katz

Henry Katz, 83 years of age, of West Hartford, CT formerly of Fairfield, CT, died Thursday, January 15, 2015 with his family around him. Born in Giessen, Germany on July 5, 1931, he was the son of the late Julius and Bernice (Goldenberg) Katz. He arrived in the United States in 1936 settling in Brooklyn, NY with family. Henry was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. He went to Pratt Institute and New York City Community College where he became a structural designer. He spent 39 years at his craft spending 33 years at Dorr Oliver where he loved to go every day. He leaves his beloved wife of over 54 years, Carrie (Sulzbacher) Katz; his daughter, Cheryl Wolmer and her husband Adam of West Hartford; his son, Alan Katz and his wife Claire of Pembroke Pines, FL; and five grandchildren Joshua and Brandon Wolmer and Jeremy, Oliver and Hannah Katz. Henry was always overjoyed to be surrounded by his family. He loved to putter in his gardens and was an avid do-it-yourselfer. He will be missed. Funeral services will be at 9:00 AM on Sunday, January 18, 2015 in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi Yitzchok Adler officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Park, Emerson, NJ. Shiva will be observed at the home of Cheryl and Adam Wolmer with minyan services at 7pm each night and shiva hours after 10 am each day. The Family wishes to thank Hughes Health and Rehab, their amazing staff and especially his nurse Richard for the incredible care they provided to Henry during his time there. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford.
