Peacefully at home, at 66, in West Hartford, Connecticut, after waging a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving husband Abe and daughters Lana and Dylan, on Friday, August 4. Devoted and loving wife of Abe Hefter. Loving and devoted mother and mother-in-law and step-mother of Lana Cooney-Gavin, Amanda Gavin, Dylan Cooney, Brian Hefter, Talia Varley, and Aaron Hefter. Cherished grandma of Adley Hefter. Dear sister and sister-in-law to Barry Kaplan, Sharon and Iven Levine and Issie and Debbie Hefter. Daughter of the late Henry and Leatrice Kaplan. An award-winning cake decorator and baker, who went on to spread joy as a teaching assistant at Summit School in Montreal, Heidi was a talented artist who loved nature, flowers, jazz, cats and gardening. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew and loved her. The family would like to thank the Oncology, Palliative and Hospice teams at Hartford Hospital, Sloan Kettering Cancer Institute, Smilow Cancer Hospital and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute for their compassion and care of Heidi. Funeral Service will be held at Weinstein Mortuary 640 Farmington, Ave Hartford, on Monday, August 7 at 2 p.m. Shiva will be held at the Shaare Zedek Congregation 5305 Rosedale Avenue, Montreal, Quebec; Wed. August 9, Thurs. August 10, 2-4 p.m., 6-8 p.m. with services at 6 p.m.; and Fri. Aug. 11, 10 a.m. to noon.
