Harry Racher, age 86 of Old Saybrook, CT passed away peacefully on May 2, 2015 in Aventura, FL. He was born on June 12, 1928 to Morris and Sonia (Weisberg) Racher in New Britain, CT. He served proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. With his brothers, he was the owner-operator of George’s Transmissions in New Britain and Middletown for over 40 years. He was always eager to lend his hands or his tools to help anyone in need. Harry was pre-deceased by his loving wife of 47 years, Marion (Churchill) Racher. He was also pre-deceased by his parents and his brothers, Manuel and Robert Racher, and his sister, Rose Racher. He leaves his step-son and his wife, Frederick and Sandra West of Burlington, CT, and their children Holly Delano and Ted Delano, and one great grandson, Tyler. He also leaves his brother-in-law David West and his wife Sandra. Harry is survived by his loving sisters, Beatrice Fogel Bagley of Aventura, FL and Sylvia Bender of Laguna Hills, CA. He was an avid boater and skin diver and loved CT. He was close to his nieces, Sandra Byrge of West Virginia and Laura Fogel of Aventura, FL and his nephew Michael Fogel of Holyoke, MA, and was loved by several other nieces and nephews as well. He will be sorely missed by his family and the many friends with whom he loved to stop and chat. There will be a graveside service at the CT State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown, CT on Wednesday, May 6th at 1:30 pm. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford, CT.
