Harriet (Joyce) Shapiro

Harriet J. Shapiro, 69 years of age, of Bloomfield, CT, passed away on Friday, September 28, 2018. Born in Hartford, CT, she was the daughter of the late Aaron and Claire (Rose) Manaker. Harriet was a graduate of Conard High School class of 1966 and a graduate from the Saint Francis Hospital School of X-Ray Technology in 1969. She was a life long animal lover, which she inherited from both of her parents. Her beautiful bijon, Moses, was her faithful best friend for many years, and later in life she was completely devoted to her cat Tessie. She was a receptionist for Alvin and Company for over 12 years and she often spoke about her fondness for her employer and her appreciation for her occupation. She worked at Alvin and Company until health issues made it no longer possible for her to do so.Harriet was a beloved Aunt to her four nephews, to her nieces in law and to her great nieces and nephews. She was also a beloved sister and sister-in-law, and a beloved friend to many. She traveled several times a year to visit her family in Maine, South Carolina, and Florida. Her visits were always eagerly anticipated and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. She never missed a family event including bar and bat mitzvahs, weddings, anniversaries, and birthdays. Harriet is survived by her brother, Barton L. Manaker and his wife, Dahlia, of Delray Beach, FL; and her nephews, Seth Manaker, Wade Manaker, Keith Manaker and Matthew Manaker. She is also remembered lovingly by a close circle of friends who already miss her dearly.Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 starting promptly at 1:00pm in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary with Rabbi Jeffrey Bennett officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, 200 Whitman Ave., West Hartford, CT. Immediately following the interment, the family will receive relatives and friends at Tumblebrook Country Club in Bloomfield, CT.
