Grete (Simon) Spanier, 93 years of age, of Worcester, MA, formerly of West Hartford, CT, died Thursday, (February 28, 2013) at the Jewish Healthcare Center, Worcester, MA. She was the widow of Edward Erwin Spanier. Born in Germany, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Meta (Blumenfeld) Simon. Grete was a member of Congregation B’nai Tikvoh-Sholom of Bloomfield, CT. She leaves her daughters, Susan C. Wortman of Tucson, AZ, and Marilyn Gould and her husband, Dr. Norman J. Gould of Leominster, MA; four grandchildren, Joshua Wortman, Peter Gould, Andrew Gould, and Jed Wortman; and four great-grandchildren. Grete was predeceased by her brothers, Kurt Simon and Joseph Simon, and by her son-in-law, Dr. Alan Wortman. Funeral services will be held 12 noon, on Sunday, March 3, in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford, CT with Rabbi Debra Cantor and Rabbi Alan Alpert officiating. Internment will follow in Congregation B’nai Tikvoh-Sholom Cemetery, 10 Club House Rd., Windsor, CT. A memorial period will be observed at the Gould home, 811 West St., Leominster, MA.
