Gloria Levy

Gloria Levy, 85, of Bloomfield, formerly of West Hartford, passed away quietly Monday morning, December 12, 2011. Born in Hartford, she was the daughter of Samuel and Mollie (BenBassett) Levy. Gloria graduated from Weaver High School class of 1944. She retired from the State of Connecticut after 22 years of dedicated service; a proud staff member of the Secretary of State’s Office. A life-long member of the Sephardic Congregation of Greater Hartford, Gloria took great pride in her Sephardic heritage, always evident in the yummy foods she prepared. She was an independent, hard-working woman, who loved to garden and take care of her home. Yes, that was Gloria up on her roof scrubbing the copper gutters with steel wool. Her favorite hobby was walking about town. She loved reading, music and song, puzzles and brain teasers, and time spent with her family was always a treat. She was generous, always donating to every cause requesting her help. Gloria kept meticulous family records, recording details and saving a wealth of pictures and documents, now treasured by her family. Gloria was predeceased by her loving brothers, Leo Levy, Max Levy, Jacob Levy, Herman (Victor) Levy and Moshe Levy. She was also predeceased by her sister-in- law Ruth Levy, and her nephew, Steven Levy. She is survived by her sisters-in- law, Sophie Levy and Judy Levy, and her sister-in-law and dear friend, Sylvia Levy, all of West Hartford, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and her adoring niece, buddy, and marble, Madalyn Levy of Bloomfield. Gloria was a dear part of her entire family and will be sadly missed. Gloria’s family thanks and is very grateful for Gloria’s adopted family and caregivers at Seabury Meadows in Bloomfield, which was her home for seven years. The love and excellent care they gave her helped make her life joyful, fun and more enriched. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford, with Rabbi Gary Atkins officiating. Interment will follow in the Congregation Ados Israel Cemetery, Tower Avenue, Hartford. Memorial contributions may be made to Beth Hillel Synagogue, 160 Wintonbury Avenue, Bloomfield 06002 or the Alzheimer’s Association – Connecticut Chapter, 2075 Silas Deane Highway, Suite 100, Rocky Hill 06067.
