Gerald (Alan) Mcnamara

Gerald Alan McNamara died on Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at home in Farmington, CT. In addition to Ronnie, his beloved wife of 47 years, and his adored daughter, Annie, Jerry is survived by loving cousins (from both his family and his wife’s), friends too numerous to count, many from his early school days in Hartford, and all those special people to whom he was and always will be Uncle Jerry. Jerry was born in Hartford, CT, the son of Florence Rudin McNamara and Henry McNamara. A ’58 graduate of Weaver High, he received his BA from Trinity College in ’62. He did his military service in the CT National Guard Infantry as a grunt, radioman and sharpshooter. Jerry was in the first class of management trainees at Heublein, becoming the youngest divisional VP in Heublein’s International Division. He traveled the world for Smirnoff Vodka and Kentucky Fried Chicken, including a three-year stint in London with his wife and daughter. After 20 years at Heublein, Jerry joined forces with three young but experienced brothers in the real estate business, focusing on condo conversions, acquisitions and management of multi-unit apartment complexes in southern New England. He was instrumental in taking the company portfolio public via the American Stock Exchange Emerging Markets as a Real Estate Investment Trust. As the portfolio grew, the Grove REIT attracted the attention of the NY Stock Exchange company Equity Residential, which purchased Grove 12 years ago. Following retirement from Grove, Jerry kept his finger in the real estate industry as a board member of Titan Capital, a private mortgage lender based in Westport, CT. He also returned to this alma mater, Trinity, as part of their wonderful alumni audit program and often said he learned more in his auditing years than as an undergraduate. To be able to go back to one of the places he loved so many years ago was a real treat. He was his 35th Reunion head and was on the committee for his 50th this month. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, June 8, 2012 in the Sanctuary of Congregation Beth Israel, 701 Farmington Ave., West Hartford, CT with Rabbi Michael Pincus officiating. Interment will follow in Beth Israel Cemetery, Jackson St. Ext., Avon, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Farmington Library, 6 Monteith Drive, Farmington, CT 06032, or Hebrew Health Care, 1 Abrahms Blvd., West Hartford, CT 06117, or a charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford. For further information, directions, or to sign the guest book, please visit online at www.weinsteinmortuary.com/funerals.cfm.
