Gerald (A.) Cohen

COHEN, Gerald A. Cohen, 86, of Spruce Brook Rd., East Berlin, formerly of New Britain, died Saturday, (February 11, 2006) at New Britain General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Sylvia (Krichavsky) Cohen. Born in New Britain, he was the son of the late Samuel A. and Dorothy (Cherniak) Cohen. He lived in New Britain most of his life, moving to East Berlin in the 1970’s. Gerald was a graduate of the University of Vermont. He was in the US Army Air Corps. serving during World War II, and served for 28 years both active and reserve duty as a photo reconnaissance pilot and communications officer. He retired from the US Air Corps as a Lieutenant Colonel. Gerald was a retired manufacturer sales engineer. He was a member of the Retired Officers Association, the Reserve Officers Association, and the US Air Force Association. He was also a member of Temple B’nai Israel of New Britain, the Berlin American Legion Post 6, and the New Britain Elks 957. He leaves two sons, Dr. Andrew Cohen and his wife Thuy of Springfield, MO, and Michael Cohen and his wife Adina of Jerusalem, Israel; a sister, Leona E. Cohen of New Britain; a brother, Donald M. Cohen and his wife Ellen of Fallston, MD; three beloved granddaughters, Naava Girman and her husband Aaron, Deborah Cohen and Sulimet Cohen, all of Jerusalem, Israel; two great-granddaughters, Esther and Yehudit Cohen; and special friends, Sharon and Donald Dickinson of Plainville. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 15, 2006 at 12:00 noon in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi Henry Okolica officiating. Interment will follow in Beth Alom Cemetery, New Britain.
