George Rosen

George Rosen, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away at Hartford Hospital on March 24, 2012 after a brief illness. He was born November 8, 1913 in Mt. Kisco, NY to Jacob and Sarah Rosen. While at a party in Greenwich, he met Clare Dranoff and from then on they were inseparable. They married in 1942 whereupon George left to serve his country overseas. Upon returning, he had a vending machine business called State Cigarette Service. Clare and George, “Joe” to his friends, settled in Mt. Vernon, NY. After the birth of their two sons, Mark and Ralph, the young family moved to West Hartford, CT, where Joe went to work for the Hartford Element Appliance Service. As a respected and trustworthy manager for the business Joe worked there into his 80s. Joe had a lifetime interest in the local Jewish community and was active in Beth El Temple of West Hartford. Hardworking, selfless and devoted, he always put the good fortune and comfort of others before his own. He is survived by his wife, Clare; his sons Mark and Ralph, daughters-in-law Terry Winters and Karen; granddaughter Leah, grandson Aaron and his wife, Brett Ravage; and great-grandchildren Shaifer and Navy. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, April 1, 2012 at 11 a.m. at King David Cemetery, 101 Mill Street, Putnam Valley, NY, 10579.
