George Levine, of Avon, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.
Born on May 12, 1938, the son of I. Oscar Levine and Selma K. Levine, he graduated from West Hartford Public Schools, Yale College and Columbia Law School. He practiced law in Hartford from 1963 until 1994, when he became a Superior Court judge. He was active in community affairs, serving as co-chairman of the Young Business and Professional Division of the Hartford Jewish Federation and as a member of the Distribution Committee of the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving. He served on many governmental agencies, including the Hartford City Council, the Greater Hartford Transit District, the Capitol Region Council of Governments, the Metropolitan District Commission, the Bradley International Airport Commission, the Governor’s Blue Ribbon Commission on Housing and several other task forces and boards
Surviving him are his daughters Elizabeth Levine of East Hampton and Anne Levine and her husband Olaf Larsen and their children Jieling and Dengling Levine of Amsterdam, The Netherlands, his sons Andrew Levine of Belle Harbor, New York and John Levine of Hartford, as well as his stepchildren Pamela B. Greenho of Old Lyme, Peter B. Brainard Jr. of Charleston, South Carolina and Newton C. Brainard IV of Lyme. He also leaves his brother Laurence A. Levine of Brooklyn, New York.
The funeral will be a grave side service at the Emanuel Synagogue Cemetery in Wethersfield, CT on Monday, May 12, 2025 at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Endowment Fund of the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford, 333 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford, CT 06117 or to the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, 10 Columbus Boulevard, Hartford, CT 06103.
