Frederick ('Rick' J.) Kaplan

Frederick (Rick) J. Kaplan of West Hartford, CT, passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at age 70. Born in Hartford, CT, he was the son of the late George and Miriam (Krauskopf) Kaplan. Rick graduated from Clark University and received a master’s degree from New York University. He served in the National Guard. For over 40 years he was a tax partner at Blum Shapiro with lifelong clients. Rick loved the Red Sox and enjoyed taking summer courses at Cornell University.
He is survived by his daughter, Amy Rowan Sach and her husband David of Arlington, MA; his brother, Ben D. Kaplan and his wife, Annie, of Guilford, CT; his sister, Sara Collis and her husband, Jeremy, of Wimbledon, England; his niece Hilary Collis and partner Philip Tiley; and his nephew Michael Collis and husband Gabriel Arana. The family would also like to thank Rachael and Gregg Grinspan for their devoted help. The family is eternally grateful to Rick’s heart donor and his family (donatelife.net).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kaplan and Garcia Scholarship Fund c/o University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford, CT 06117.
