Florence "Funny" (White) Wice

Florence “Funny” (White) Wice, 80, of West Hartford passed away after a brief illness Sunday (June 1, 2008), at University of Connecticut (Dempsey) Health Center in Farmington surrounded by her family. Daughter of the late Abraham and Bessie “Patty” Katz White, Funny was born and raised in Hartford. She was a 1946 graduate of Weaver High School. She leaves behind the first love of her life and husband of 58 years, Marshall “Maish” Wice. She also leaves behind her three children, Susan W. Rubin and her husband Paul of Manchester, attorney Brian Wice of Houston, TX and Steven Wice of New York City and her three cherished grandchildren Andrew, Jessica and Ashley. She was predeceased by a sister, Gloria White Jacobs. Funny will be sorely missed by family and friends, including her canine friends at Elizabeth Park and her special extended family of the “Mama Ducks and their little ducklings” which she faithfully fed every day. Funny anxiously awaited the arrival of her baby ducks each spring as well as the chance to get back out into her yard where everyone driving by on Trout Brook Drive would see her planting her flowers. She also devoted 17 years of her life as a school crossing guard helping to ensure the safety of a generation of students at St. Timothy School, no matter how cold or rainy it may have been. A funeral service will be held TODAY (Tuesday, June 3) at 1 p.m. at Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery, 200 Whitman Ave., West Hartford. Shiva will be observed the first evening June 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Suppin family home located at 1783 Asylum Avenue, West Harford and June 4 and June 5 at 7:30 pm at the home of her daughter Susan Rubin at 172 Kennedy Road, Manchester. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations in Funny’s memory be made to the Connecticut Humane Society, 9 Russell Road, Newington, CT. 06111.
