Evelyn Kudlow, 85,a former long time resident of Manchester, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday (September 13, 2007), at the Cedar Glen Nursing Home, Danvers, MA. Evelyn was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1922, the daughter of Harry and Sonia Kowalsky. She attended New York University and graduated with a Bachelors of Science Degree. She married Seymour Kudlow in 1947 and moved to Manchester in 1950. After raising her children she began a career as a Social Worker for the State of Connecticut where she was employed until her retirement. Evelyn was an active member of B’nai Brith Women and served multiple terms as Chapter President. She was also a member of Temple Beth Shalom and the Temple Sisterhood. She was devoted to improving the welfare of others and volunteered many hours to that end. Her efforts ranged from fund raising events to working directly with others as a literacy volunteer. Evelyn had very broad interests and a passion for the cultural arts. Her calendar was always filled with theatre, museums, lectures, exhibits, etc. Evelyn will be remembered as a warm and gracious woman with a radiant smile who had a true gift for loving relationships. Her heart was filled with generosity. Her home was always open to friends and family. She loved to be surrounded by people and they loved to be with her. Evelyn is survived by her daughters Marcia Kudlow of Salem, Ma., and Ronnie Steinau of Encinitas, CA. The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to Evelyn’s caregiver, Nelly Emanuel, who grew to love Evelyn as a member of her own family. The family also expresses special thanks and to the staff of the Cedar Glen Nursing Home who cared for Evelyn with compassion and love. A graveside service will be held Sunday, Sept 16th, 11 a.m. at the Temple Beth Shalom Memorial Park, Autumn St., Manchester, CT. Donations, in Evelyn’s memory, may be made to the United Jewish Appeal, Anti-defamation League or any human service organization. Funeral arrangements are provided by Weinstein Mortuary.
