Estelle (Alperson) Lewis

Estelle Lewis, 90, beloved wife of the late David Lewis, died Tuesday, (August 1, 2006). Estelle was a resident of West Hartford, and previously Clinton, New Britain and S. Palm Beach, FL. Born in Hartford, Estelle was the daughter of the late Philip and Ethel Alperson. After graduation from Weaver High School, Estelle worked at G. Fox before marrying David in 1938. Estelle’s interests were many. She had a love for the arts, and was a concert level pianist and an accomplished painter. Having taken up tennis at close to 50 years old, Estelle quickly became a formidable competitor to those half her age. She was active in the Jewish community and was sisterhood president of Temple B’Nai Israel in New Britain and co-chair of the Beth El Art Show in West Hartford. Above all Estelle was a caring and devoted mother and grandmother and she will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Her warmth, graciousness and compassion will remain in the hearts of all that knew her. Estelle leaves four children; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, Loren and his wife Beverly of Vernon and their children Shari Cote, Heidi Mullen and Dina Gilbert, Peter of Virginia and his daughter Elena, Alan and his wife Karen, and children Jo-Marie Nelson, Tammy Gordon, and Alexandra, Max and Sara Lewis and Deborah of West Hartford and her children Alex and Phillip Gordon. Funeral services will be held TODAY at 12 Noon at Leavitt-Weinstein Memorial Chapel in West Palm Beach. Shiva will be observed at Deborah’s home at 9 Lovelace Drive in West Hartford on Friday from 12 Noon-7 p.m. and Sunday at 20 West Walk, Clinton from 12 Noon - 9 p.m. Donations may be made to the Hebrew Home and Hospital, One Abrahms Blvd., West Hartford, CT 06117, The CT VNA of Greater Hartford, 111 Founders Plaza, East Hartford, CT 06118, or to the Alzheimer’s Association CT Chapter, 279 New Britain Rd., Kensington, CT 06037.
