Emily J. Moskowitz

January 9, 1945 — May 8, 2025

West Hartford

Emily’s smile was always the first thing you noticed. Wherever she went, her smile lit up the room. That smile was extinguished on May 8, 2025 at the age of 80.

Emily J Moskowitz lived a rich life. Emily started her professional life as a caseworker in New York. She became a teacher at all levels and spent the last 40 years as an attorney. Through it all, she counseled women of all ages to get an education, to always aspire to advance, and to learn to be independent. Family courts frequently appointed Emily to be the guardian ad litem to children in high conflict cases. Judges knew that Emily’s concern and well-being was always for the best interest of the children. In the past few years, several of these children, now adults, have recounted how Emily’s representation had saved their lives in the midst of their parents’ battling.

Emily and Robert J. Kor, her husband of thirty-three years, loved to travel. They visited most European countries, as well as Turkey, South Korea and Japan. She loved the time they spent together on Cape Cod with their dog, Maddie.

Emily loved to read. Although she preferred authors who were women, she could occasionally be found reading works by men. When asked about this, she would simply say that these men understood a woman’s point of view.

Emily was born in Brooklyn, NY on January 9, 1945 to Helen and Jack Ferentz, who predeceased her. Emily leaves her loving and devoted husband Bob, her beloved daughters Avra Judith Messe and Jordana Anne Baldwin (Ned Baldwin), her stepdaughter, Stefanie Rachel Kor (Isaac McAlister), and her adored grandchildren Reuben, Esther, Irving and Hazel. She also leaves her sister Carole Dalton (William Dalton), her devoted nieces, Dana Livstone (Michael Livstone), Karin Kalkstein (Jayvee Villanueva), Rachael Dalton (Daniel Weiss), as well as her great nephews and nieces Yoni, Ariella, Tess and Zachary, and many loving and caring friends.

The family thanks the medical and support staff at Hartford Hospital, Hospital for Special Care, Jerome Home, Hartford Healthcare at Home (particularly those providing her PT and OT) and Emily’s aides at home for their caring and support during these past few months. The family also express their heartfelt appreciation for the exceptional care and outpouring of love and support they have received for Emily at every step of this journey.

In lieu of flowers, Emily requests donations to either Planned Parenthood, World Central Kitchen, Jewish World Services, HIAS, or America Cancer Society.

A funeral will be held May 9, 2025 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel at Emanuel Synagogue, 160 Mohegan Drive, West Hartford, CT. Internment will follow at Hartford Mutual Society Memorial Park in East Granby, CT. Following burial, the family will receive friends at Emanuel Synagogue, in West Hartford. The family will sit shiva at their home in West Hartford.

May Emily’s memory be a source of strength and a blessing.
